CIBER Consultant A.J. Briding Earns Top Certification in Organizational Resilience
First Person Worldwide to Earn The Certified Organizational Resilience Executive Certification
GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. – June 12, 2008 – A.J. Briding, Senior Consultant of Emergency Management Services for CIBER, Inc. (NYSE: CBR), has earned his Certified Organizational Resilience Executive (CORE) certification from The International Consortium for Organizational Resilience (ICOR). He is the first person to receive this certification in the world.
“Organizational resilience” refers to an organization’s ability to quickly, efficiently, and effectively respond and adapt to significant change, such as policy changes (e.g., U.S. healthcare policy), market changes (e.g., the rise of India and China as economic powers), environmental changes (e.g., climate change), and crises (e.g., terrorist attacks or natural disasters). Organizations which can more fluidly adapt to changes are more likely to survive a major change and thrive in a ‘post-change’ environment, whether the change is evolutionary or revolutionary.
ICOR is an international vendor-neutral not-for-profit education and credentialing consortium that provides professional development, certification, thought-leadership, and the latest in research and industry trends to professionals in the disciplines associated with organizational resilience. ICOR’s founding members are from the United States, Australia, Thailand, and Malaysia.
“To be resilient, organizations need leaders who will design resilience into their management of people, places, infrastructure, and work processes so that the organization is able to achieve its core objectives in the face of adversity. Briding exhibited these qualifications of leadership,” said Lynnda Nelson, President of ICOR.
Briding served as CIBER’s advisor on emergency operations for the City of New Orleans, assisting the City with strategic planning, organizational alignment, emergency communication, evacuation processing, and implementation of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) following Hurricane Katrina. Also for New Orleans, Briding built the City’s NIMS concept of operations, designed its emergency operations center organizational structure, and wrote its emergency operations plan.

In addition to the CORE certification, Briding is also a Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) from the American Society for Quality (ASQ), a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), and Project Management Professional (PMP). Briding has also received certification in Homeland Security Level III (CHS-III).
Briding has authored several articles about topics in emergency management, most recently for the International Association of Emergency Management Bulletin (IAEM Bulletin), covering topics such as campus security and how to effectively partner with the information technology (IT) department. He will be speaking at the Certification in Homeland Security Conference, Sep. 2 – 4 in San Diego.
